Originally the property of the Earls of Kildare for nearly 300 years, the castle was forfeited and granted to the Earls of Desmond in 1536 following a rebellion. It was then it was given its present name. You’ll learn more about the history of Desmond Castle and the surrounding area during a visit to the Adare Heritage Center.
