GOÐAFOSS WATERFALL

With a height of almost 40 feet, Goðafoss Waterfall, which translates to “Waterfall of the Gods,” is one of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland. Get up close to the water’s edge to get a feel for the power of this natural wonder.

FUGLASAFN SIGURGEIRS BIRD MUSEUM

Check out the largest private bird collection in Iceland at this spectacular museum established following the pioneering work of Sigurgeir Stefansson. The interactive display of the collection is both interesting and educational and contains a specimen of all of the Icelandic breeding birds except one. There are also several bird hides where you can get close up to the wildlife for photography or bird watching.

VISIT SMOKEHOUSE ON VOGAR FARM

See the smoking process that has been passed down through generations at this family-owned farm.

LUNCH AT CAFÉ VOGAFJÓS

Enjoy a hearty lunch at this unique café located inside the stable. The café offers not just a view of the cows, but the opportunity to taste fresh, warm milk direct from the source.

DIMMUBORGIR LAVA LABYRINTH

Visit the lava fields at Dimmuborgir and you’ll see where the landscape, which means, “black castle,” gets its name. The lava pillars, columns and arches were created over 2,000 years ago and, as legend says, is the home to the Icelandic Yuletide Lads, 13 mischievous boys who are akin to a trouble-making Santa Claus.

BREAD IN A BUCKET BAKING ACTIVITY

Adventurers will take part in the baking of Iceland’s famous brown Geysir or rúgbrauð bread, which the locals commonly call "Bread in a Bucket", where dough is placed in buckets, buried underground and baked by the heat from nearby hot springs.

MÝVATN NATURE BATHS

Cap off your day by relaxing in the soothing alkaline bathing lagoon while taking in the beauty of your natural surroundings. You can also experience a steam bath with natural geothermal steam that rises from the earth through vents in the floor.

DINNER ON YOUR OWN IN AKUREYRI

Return to Akureyri relaxed after your visit to the Mývatn Nature Baths and enjoy a nice meal on your own as you reflect on the beauty and adventure of your exciting day. Fresh fish is always on the menu as Akureyri is an important port and fishing center. Ask your Adventure Guides for a recommendation that will satisfy your family’s needs.
