If you are a U. S. citizen, you will need a valid passport to enter Norway and return to the United States. It must be valid for six months beyond your intended stay and have at least 2 blank pages remaining. Allow yourself sufficient time to have your application processed if you are applying for a new passport or renewing an expired passport. Visit the U.S. Department of State for more details. You do not need a visa to travel to Norway for less than 90 days. A visa is also not required for sailing to the Arctic.

Please note: Passports are collected by the ship on the first day of the cruise and held until the ship returns to Longyearbyen.

If you are not a U.S. citizen, please check with the Consulate or Embassy for Norway for information on documentation requirements.

      Baggage Restriction Guidelines

Internal Flights policies for baggage limitations and weight requirements are:

      • 1 checked bag: no more than 23 kg/50 lbs.
      • 1 small carry-on bag: no more than 8 kg/17.6 lbs.

It is extremely important for Guests to stay within these limits for the internal flight. Baggage restrictions on some internal air flights may vary from the airlines’ stated baggage restrictions and are at the full discretion of the air carrier and outside of Adventure by Disney’s control.

      Luggage Information

      Photography Equipment
Although photography is a key component on Arctic voyages, it is still very important to follow the baggage weight restrictions when planning for specific photographic equipment that you intend to bring on your journey.

Please note: Due to frequent security changes we recommend that you check with your air carrier as well as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for the most up-to-date restrictions.

      Clothing
As a general rule, Guests should pack clothing that can be layered, as temperatures are likely to vary widely over the course of the trip. Wearing several medium-weight layers of clothing under a parka allows the body to adjust personal temperatures at will.

Adventures by Disney provides Guests with a water-resistant, hooded parka designed for the Arctic climate. Complimentary use of waterproof rubber boots is provided on board. Should Guests choose to bring their own boots on the cruise, please keep in mind that boots should be mid-calf to knee-high, waterproof and rigid with high traction soles that can withstand walking through shallow icy water and other rough terrain. We recommend trying the boots in advance to ensure comfort and allow enough space to layer 1 or 2 pairs of socks and accommodate foot-warmer insoles.

      Daytime/Evening Attire
Comfortable, casual clothing is recommended. Since the entire ship is air-conditioned, a sweater and light jacket or a shawl may be necessary. There is no formal dress code on board the ship. When in the common areas and out on deck, it is best to wear comfortable flat shoes with non-slip soles. Swimwear/fitness wear should only be worn in the pool/fitness areas. Evening attire should be smart casual, but there is not a specific policy in place as it is important to stay within the baggage weight restriction guidelines (see above).

      Mandatory
      • Waterproof/Windproof Over Pants: These do not need to be insulated, however, they do need to be waterproof, as you may get wet during Zodiac excursions and landings
      • Warm Hat, Wool Ear Muffs and/or Polar Ear Muffs
      • Polar or Wool Neck Warmer – avoid long scarves that do not stay in place

      Provided on Board
      • Waterproof Parka – Guests will take these home
      • Rubber Boots – Complimentary rental
      • Flotation Suit

The following is a suggested list of what to bring on your trip:
      • Pants
      • Long sleeve shirt
      • Wool leggings
      • Polar sweater or sweatshirt
      • Fleece jacket
      • Polar vest
      • Lightweight packable jacket (for use during activities in Longyearbyen and/or Oslo prior to boarding the ship and receiving a parka)

      • Wool or silk glove liners
      • Thermal underwear
      • Thick warm socks
      • Small waterproof backpack
      • Highly UV-protective sunglasses (recommend bringing a backup pair as there is a limited selection on board the ship)
      • Walking poles (small supply available for sale on board)
      • Walking or hiking shoes (needed for Longyearbyen and Oslo activities)
      • Light raincoat (in case needed in Oslo and Longyearbyen as ponchos will not be provided)
      • Hand and toe warmers
      • No formal or dressy attire needed

      Miscellaneous
      • Passport
      • Medication (including motion sickness medication if susceptible to seasickness)
      • Camera/video camera
      • Binoculars
      • Extra batteries or charger for camera
      • Cell phone charger
      • Toiletries
      • Outlet adapter: 110V American (2 flat pins) / 220V European (round sockets with 2 round pins). One of each plug is located on the desk in each room. No additional USB plugs are available. Recommend bringing a European adaptor so that Guests can utilize both plugs.

      Use of Drones
The use of drones aboard PONANT ships, whether they are sailing at sea, at a port-of-call or anchored, is strictly forbidden. The use of drones on land in Longyearbyen is also strictly forbidden by international polar regulations.

In Norway, the monetary unit is the Norwegian krone. Major credit cards are generally accepted by most restaurants and stores in Norway. As Norway is a predominantly cashless society, Guests may only need to exchange for a small amount of local currency. Adventures by Disney recommends that Guests bring U.S. dollars in small denominations and exchange only the amount needed for miscellaneous expenses.

On the ship, you will open a shipboard account which will allow you to pay for all onboard purchases by charging to your room (i.e. spa treatments, boutique purchases, premium spirits, laundry, etc.). The prices for onboard purchases are in Euros. This account can be paid at the end of the cruise with a major credit card (Visa, American Express or MasterCard) or cash (USD or Euros).

Your group will use commercial aircraft for in-itinerary flights between Oslo and Longyearbyen. While in Oslo and Longyearbyen, motor coaches will be used for transportation and excursions. Due to the remote location of this Expedition Cruise, there is no land based medical infrastructure in the expedition region. Therefore, although the ship has its own qualified doctor and nurse, and has a medical center containing a stock of basic medicines and medical equipment, the medical treatment available is not comparable to that offered by a shore-based medical facility. To ensure your comfort and safety, and so that the onboard doctor is aware of your general state of health, Guests will be required to sign a health attestation form. This form will be emailed to Guests approximately 45 days prior to sailing and it will need to be returned approximately 30 days prior to sailing.

Yes, there is a doctor on board available to Guests. There is a fee for all consultations and the price may vary according to the time and place of the consultation (hospital or stateroom). Guests will also be required to pay for any medications.

PONANT asks Guests who require any special treatment to note it on the medical form prior to departure, as well as to inform the on-board crew upon embarkation. It is also important for Guests to keep any medications on hand for the duration of the trip.

This trip has an activity rating of light/moderate; travelers should be in good health, comfortable walking or standing for extended periods and prepared for multiple hours of activity on some days. Excursions may include navigating uneven terrain, climbing stairs without handrails and walking on paths with steep ascents/descents or that are mud, snow or ice covered. Guests must be able to step down into and out of a Zodiac with little assistance, including stepping into the water at times.

This vacation includes activities that may present certain challenges to Guests with special needs. It is strongly recommended that persons requiring assistance be accompanied by a companion who is capable of and totally responsible for providing assistance. Neither Adventures by Disney nor its suppliers may physically lift or assist Guests onto transportation vehicles. This expedition can be physically demanding and Guests should be in general good health and able to walk short distances over uneven and rough terrain unassisted. Since Guests will be traveling to a remote area without access to sophisticated medical facilities, a Guest may not join this expedition if they have a life-threatening condition. Contact a Vacationista to discuss any questions you may have.

The Arctic seas can be relatively calm compared to those in the Antarctic. Although most Guests are not affected since there is limited time at sea where the ship doesn't stop for landings or excursions, there are still some instances that the seas can be choppy depending on the weather conditions. It is highly recommended for all Guests that are susceptible to seasickness, or aren’t sure if they are, to have motion sickness medication, although the medical center onboard can provide treatment for a fee.

The ships have stabilizers equipped with dynamic fins which adapt to the movements of the ship. This system allows the ship to anticipate and compensate for the pitching and tossing of the sea to achieve greater stability.

While we welcome children ages 8 and up for our Arctic Expedition Cruise trip, we recommend that children be at least 10 years old at the time of travel. This is based on several factors, such as the duration of the trip, potential for extreme weather or sea conditions and the amount of physical activity involved. In addition, this trip involves viewing wild animals in their natural habitat, such as polar bears, reindeer, arctic foxes and more, which requires a certain level of maturity to follow the strict regulations enforced to maintain safety and the pristine environment of the Arctic. Because each child is different, call a Vacationista at (800) 543-0865 to discuss whether this is the right trip for your kids.

Typically, breakfast is a buffet. Dinners and lunches usually include fish, meat, and pasta or rice entrées; vegetables and salad; and desserts and fruit. Some meals on the trip are served family style while others offer a limited-choice menu or buffet. Given the nature of group travel, we regret that á la carte menu choices may not always be available. Child-friendly choices are available at all meals. Menu items are subject to change due to the availability and seasonality of foods. Guests are offered a varied menu, with themed meals and classic entrées.

Meals on board are served at leisure in 2 restaurants and the times are scheduled around the day's excursions and shipboard activities. Guests may dine in the main dining room on Deck 2, which serves contemporary, gourmet and international cuisine, or the more casual restaurant on Deck 6, which offers indoor and outdoor seating (weather and sea conditions permitting) for buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In addition to 3 meals a day, early-riser coffee and afternoon tea are served daily and the lounges are open at designated times for beverages throughout the day and evening. Room service is also available 24 hours a day.

Bar drinks (exclusive of premium champagnes, wines and spirits), coffee, tea and soft drinks are included during all meals and throughout the day in the lounges. Tap water is purified and bottled water is provided on the ship.
